ديرة هي منطقة قديمة تقع في الجزء الشمالي الشرقي من إنجلترا الحالية. كانت واحدة من الممالك الأنجلوسكسونية التي ظهرت بعد سقوط الإمبراطورية الرومانية في بريطانيا. كانت ديرة تقع جنوب نهر تيز ، وتمتد من مصب هامبر إلى مصب تاين.

يعتقد أن اسم "ديرة" مشتق من الكلمة البريثونية التي تعني "الماء" أو "النهر" ، وهو أمر منطقي نظرا لموقعها بالقرب من مصبين رئيسيين. وقد استقر المنطقة أصلا من قبل Brigantes، وهي قبيلة سلتيك، قبل أن يتم غزوها من قبل الأنجلو ساكسون في القرن 6 .

"Deira is an ancient region located in the north-eastern part of present-day England. It was one of the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms that emerged after the fall of the Roman Empire in Britain. Deira was located south of the River Tees, stretching from the Humber estuary to the Tyne estuary.

The name ""Deira"" is thought to have derived from the Brythonic word for ""water"" or ""river"", which would make sense given its location near two major estuaries. The region was originally settled by the Brigantes, a Celtic tribe, before being conquered by the Anglo-Saxons in the 6th century.

Deira was frequently at war with its neighboring Anglo-Saxon kingdom, Bernicia, to the north. Eventually, the two kingdoms were united in the 7th century by King Edwin of Northumbria, who ruled over both Deira and Bernicia."
